Sapphire crystals have a high hardness and are second only to diamond in nature. Optical lenses made of sapphire crystals have very good surface scratch resistance characteristics. At the same time, sapphire crystals have excellent corrosion resistance, so sapphire lenses are often used in some harsh environments. In addition to these properties, sapphire crystals have a wide range of spectral transmittance properties, allowing them to be widely used from ultraviolet, visible, near-infrared to mid-infrared.
